Three area families will continue their Christmas tradition of making and selling cookies to raise money to help others, with a cookie walk at St. John Lutheran Church of Newhall on Sunday.
The Boyles, Koehn and Kelley families will be busy the next couple days making cookies for the Cookie Walk, which takes place after the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services.
"This is the third year we are doing a Christmas mission project instead of a gift exchange," says Kris Boyles. "The first year we cooked and served a meal at Dubuque Mission. Last year we painted a great room and assembled dozens of bunk beds at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca. This year we are conducting a cookie walk to raise funds for the St. John Lutheran (Newhall) Senior Youth annual mission trip to Ukandu Chicago."
The family members will prepare items on Friday and then meet at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday to finish the cookies. They are asking for free-will donations.
Ukandu Chicago has a Facebook page for more info about that event.
