Debra A. Manternach, 15, of Watkins, died Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from injuries sustained in a car accident on Friday.
The Benton County Sheriff's office says Debra Manternach was driving a Volkswagen Rabbit, and had stopped to make a left turn on a county road in southern Benton County, when she was rear-ended by a 17-year-old male driving a Ford Taurus.
Manternach was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital, where she died on Saturday.
Debra was a freshman at Benton Community High School, and was active in 4-H and FFA. She was one of five members of the Benton County 4-H Hippology Quiz Bowl team that won the state 4-H Horse Jamboree earlier this year year and is preparing to go to the national Hippology contest in Denver, Colorado, in January.
