By Rob Levis, Coach Tuesday night the Vinton-Shellsburg Center Point Urbana swim team hosted Williamsburg in the battle for the WaMaC at the Iowa Braille School. The Stormin' Vikings took the mythical crown with a strong 67-27 victory over the Raiders in a show-down between the only two WaMaC schools with swim programs. On senior night the four Stormin' Vikes' seniors came up big. Starting fast, Seniors Tyler Hekel, Isaac Vrba, Lewis Williams and Dylan Geater combined for a convincing victory in the 160 yard Medley Relay. The event would mark the first of a number of wins for the big four. Williams also took first as a member of the 320 Free Relay along with Hekel - who also won the 100 Backstroke. Vrba scored two more firsts - as a member of the 160 Free Relay and in the 100 Breaststroke. The Medley Relay was the first of four wins on the night for Geater who also was on the victorious 160 Free Relay along with individual firsts in the 50 Free and 100 Free. Other event winners on the night were SO Cyrus Elwick in the 500 Free and FR Isaac Allsup in the 100 Butterfly as the Stormin' Vikings won 9 of the 11 events on the evening. There was also the opportunity for a number of guys to swim in events they aren't normally in. Allsup captured second in the 200 Free and JR Keenan Andreas did the same in the 50 Free. JR Tristan Miller took second in the 100 Breast with a nice time drop and also grabbed 3rd in the 200 Free swimming that event for the first time. It was a great way for the Stormin' Vikes to close out their home season and for this group of seniors to finish their home swim careers. There are still a few meets left and the team has a busy week ahead next week traveling to CR Washington on Tuesday, Grinnell on Thursday and Boone on Saturday before competing at the District Meet Saturday, February 3rd at Linn-Mar.
