DES MOINES – On Monday, Senate Republicans met at the Capitol and elected leadership for the 84th General Assembly, which convenes on January 10, 2011. Among the Assistant Leaders chosen to represent Republicans was Senator Tim Kapucian (R-Keystone).

“I am really looking forward to working with my fellow Republican leaders to reduce the size of government, help grow sustainable jobs in Iowa and put our fiscal house in order,” said Kapucian. “Republicans have an ambitious agenda that I think is achievable and I look forward to representing my constituents at the Capitol again.”

“Sen. Tim Kapucian’s hard work, knowledge and common sense will be a valuable addition to our Senate Republican Leadership Team,” said Senate Republican Leader Paul McKinley (R-Chariton). “I am eager to continue my work with Sen. Kapucian in order to move Iowa forward in a direction that brings more private sector jobs, less government spending, lower taxes and provides Iowans with a greater say in their own government.”

Senator Paul McKinley (R-Chariton) was again elected to serve as the Senate Republican Leader while Sen. Steve Kettering (R-Lake View) was elected as Senate Republican Whip. Senators Merlin Bartz (R-Grafton), Brad Zaun (R-Urbandale), Pat Ward (R-West Des Moines), and David Johnson (R-Ocheyedan) were also elected Assistant Leaders.
