The Benton County Volunteer Program exists to meet needs in the area. They have added a project that helps those overseas serving out country as well.
The group has adopted a military base in Germany where they send our expired. "The response has been amazing. I come to work everyday with coupons hanging on the door knob or slid under the door. There are some that do include a dollar or two to help with the mailing." said Alberta Reifenstahl, coordinator of the project.
"We separate the food coupons from the non-food coupons, separate the different months in a packet, run a grand total of each catagory and mail coupons for the month the base will receive them and 2 prior months and of course those into the future. No store coupons are accepted, only product coupons" she said.
These coupons are used for the benefit of the military families living abroad.
Currently there are about 8 volunteers who help with this program.
If you have expired coupons, feel free to drop them off at the BCVP office located in the Sherman Building located at 303 1st Ave. in Vinton. If you can include $1 to help with the mailing, that would be great!
