The holiday season is upon us and it always a great time to see family and friends. Take the time to sit back relax and enjoy everything and everybody in your life during the holidays. Here at the Vinton Parks & Recreation department we are very thankful for all of the support that we receive all year, especially from Jeff, Sandy, Stu, Ed, Brenda, Ted & Craig & all of our understanding families.

We really have a lot of fun programs and activities coming up for kids and adults, so check them out below or visit or website. Remember for now we are submitting this article once a month, so cut the calendar out of the paper, print it off the computer but somehow get it up on your refrigerator or bulletin board before you miss an activity.

Upcoming Programs & Activities:

Little Viking Wrestling/ This program just started but we will still take registrations. This is for all V/S youth in grades Kindergarten through 6th grades.

Breakfast with Santa /Register by December 1st for this annual event this is always a whole lot of fun for the entire family. The event will be held on Saturday, December 4th at the Skate & Activity Center.

Kids Craft Day /Register by December 1st for this annual event this is fun filled event. The fun is for all kindergarten through fourth grade youth and will be held on Saturday, December 4th at the Skate & Activity Center.

Winter Carnival/December 28th/Vinton Skate & Activity Center/This carnival is for all grade school and younger youth from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Don’t miss out in the fun.

Dodgeball Tournament/This is for grades 3rd through 8th during winter break on December 29th at the Recreation Center.

New Years Eve at Noon/Kids come out and party for the New Year on December 30th. The fun will begin at the Skate Center at 10:00 a.m. This program is a cooperative program with the VPRD and the Benton County Extension.

After the holidays watch for: Viking Hoopsters, Floor Hockey League, Jr. Cheerleading, Racquetball Leagues & the Lions/VPRD Wrestling Tournament

On Going Programs:

Tae Kwon Do/Held at the Vinton Recreation Center on Tuesdays & Thursday evenings. Stop by the Recreation Center to watch the class or for more information.

Circuit Training/Get a total workout with this circuit program of 17 different machines in under an hour. This program is held at the middle school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Register at the VPRD office. This will run September through May.

Lap Swim/Here is your opportunity to train for those upcoming events or just keep yourself in shape by swimming laps. This program is for all ages. Sessions are held on Mondays, Wednesday & Fridays from 6:15 -7:15 a.m. at the IBSSS swimming pool. Register at VPRD office and receive your calendar of swim dates. All participants must sign up for a month at a time; there is no daily admission fee.

Don’t forget you can always go to the Recreation Center during open hours to work out on the exercise equipment. Walking can be done in the gym, treadmill or our elliptical fitness piece. The Recreation Center is open the following hours:

Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Sundays 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Listed below are the hours for open skating. We are taking reservations for groups. If you are interested in renting the skate center for a birthday party, youth group gathering, or any get together, give us a call at the recreation center and we will set up a date for you. Stop out and have some fun.

Don’t forget, we will take all your bottles and cans that are redeemable for five cents at the parks & recreation department. If you have cans or bottles and want to get rid of them, bring them to the park shop located just north of the swimming pool, bring them to the recreation center or give us a call and we will come out and get them. All proceeds go to a fund to help our youth programs. This program has already made a big impact.
