Every year, Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School teacher Alex Vasquez leads a Pearl Harbor Memorial Service at noon on Dec. 7 -TODAY. This year's event takes place in the VSMS Library-Media Center (LMC). The doors open at noon; the ceremony begins at 12:10 p.m.
Everyone is invited to attend this remembrance on the 69th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
Vinton-Shellsburg 8th grade students will perform the national anthem, read after-action reports, and perform Taps to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor. The Vinton-Shellsburg USS Arizona artifact and other historical items will be on display. There will be a moment of silence to honor the exact moment that the Arizona sank

(Now deceased) \'Navy Centenarian Sailor\', 103 year old, former enlisted Chief Petty Officer, Aviation Chief Radioman (ACRM, Combat Aircrewman), later wartime commissioned Chief Warrant Officer Julio \'Jay\' Ereneta, U. S. Navy (Ret.), is a thirty year career veteran of World War One and World War Two. He first flew aircrewman in August 1922; flew rearseat Radioman/Gunner (1920s/1930s) in the tactical air squadrons of the Navy\'s first aircraft carriers, USS LANGLEY (CV-1) and USS LEXINGTON (CV-2).
