Every year, the Vinton Kiwanis club makes sure that every 3rd grader owns their very own dictionary. This year was no exception. Mrs. Hyland, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Karr and Mrs. Rodman's, the four 3rd grade classrooms, all received dictionaries today. The dictionaries also include a section about state capitals, state birds and other tidbits of information. The Dictionary Project originally started in 1995 by a lady named Mary French who saw the need to provide personal copies of a dictionary to 3rd graders in her local school system. It's now a national effort that has handed out over 30 million dictionaries to kids in the United States and internationally. The Kiwanis shared a little bit with the kids about who the Kiwanis are, and told them about the splash pad that is set to arrive this spring to the Kiwanis Park.
