There are two interesting facts about the Tour delights and its female competitors:

  1. There have been more females than males enter the race in its six-year history. According to the score sheet that John Frazier compiles, there are 100 men and 104 women who competed in the event between 2005 and 2009
  2. Every winner of the overall female trophy has done so in her first and only year of racing in the Tour deLights.

This year’s winner, Shaela Bresnan of Vinton, ran for the first time in the Tour DeLights. Last year’s winner, 13-year-old Maddie Hinsley, also won in her first year. The same thing happened in 2005 (Jen Horton), 2006 (Erin Moeller), 2007 (Katie Larsen) and 2008 (Amber Stearns). Each winner was competing in her first race; none of the first five winners ran again in the Tour.
