For more than 35 years, Lester and Donna Geiger lived in a one-story house north of Minne Estema Park in rural Brandon, keeping it warm in the winter with wood and heating oil.

Lester said he was cleaning up a heating oil leak -- he had filled the tank a day earlier and there was a problem with the filter -- with wood chips. Something caused the wood and oil to ignite, and soon the house was in flames. The house was fully engulfed by the time Brandon firefighters arrived. The Geigers and their dog escaped.

The Vinton Fire Department and the North Benton Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
