Pourville Art Studio and Gallery has been a hub of activity since it's opening a few weeks ago.
The Vinton Guild of Fine Arts held their first meeting in the new location last week. Presenting to the audience were Mark Mossman who most know from the Mossman Law Firm, presented a set of photographs that he had taken. The photographs were also set to music played by Mossman on his guitar. The presentation was mesmerizing to watch and the photos gave an inside look at the lives of those that he happened to see on the street as he vacationed.
Dandeena Schadle shared with those gathered that her ability to be an artist started when she was in school. Her art teacher Mrs. Kettler inspired Schadle shared how she's now trying to do the same with the students that she teaches in the Union School district. Stating that this is her dream job, Shadle has collected works of art from people around the area to offer at her shop. There are paintings as you'd expect, as well as twill work, ironwork, handmade baskets, magnets and I'm sure more items that I failed to notice.
The third presenter at the event was Roseanne Schau. Schau creates glass plates. She's from Keystone and shared the art of glassmaking. Bringing pieces of her creations to show to the crowd she explained how she melts the glass and then places it into the molds to form it. Glass she said, likes to be 1/4" thick. She has no idea why, but when it's melted it will settle into that thickness. Explaining her techniques she explained that you have to make sure that the glass is all the same types of glass, noting that if it isn't it won't work. She has a book where she keeps great detail of how she creates each piece, noting what she did, the type of glass what she did, the type of glass and other notes for the project so that she can recreate it or fix it if it needs to be.
The Vinton Guild of Fine Arts membership is $30 per year to join whether you are an artist or would just like to support the Guild.
Here are pictures of the evening as well as some of the works available in the shop.
The Vinton Guild of Fine Arts is also going to be hosting an art contest as part of Vinton's Sesquicentennial in August. Simply click for details about the art contest.
