Growing up in a small town has its benefits. Living in the same small town most of your life has a different set of benefits.

Recently two area sisters have had the task of sorting through the belonging and keepsakes of their family home.

As with many of us, not only did they find their family memorabilia, but they found things from extended family members in their home that were there for safekeeping.

The two knew that the Centennial photo existed and brought it out to share as we recognized another landmark in Vinton. A picture of the two sisters, all dressed up to celebrate Vinton's Centennial celebration, 50 years ago. With a teeny tiny bit of arm twisting, (I think Kathy had already asked her husband David to retake it) they recreated the photo. Same sidewalk, same location.

I grew up across the street from these two wonderful gals, Becky Lutz and Kathy (Lutz) Dzewaltowski. The sidewalk where this picture was taken was on the same sidewalk that I walked on many times to go to their house.

Kathy, has a family of her own, and lives in Kansas now, and Becky is now a pharmacist, and she stayed in Vinton.

When I saw the original picture pop up from 50 years ago, it took me back. The memories I have of these two gals include endless hours of games of Authors, Waterworks, Kerplunk or softball, and laying on the floor in their livingroom watching M*A*S*H.

Sure, I had my own sister Becky to hang out with, but it was much better when all 4 of us hung out together.

I would have never dreamed 50 years later we'd be celebrating the town's birthday again, let alone that I'd be writing a story about it, on a contraption called a computer, something that was reserved for sci-fi TV shows back then.

So here's hoping that you two will get to recreate this photo for Vinton's 175th celebration which can be called any of the following: Dodransbicentennial, Dodrabicentennial, Dequasbicentennial, Dosquicentennial, Demisemiseptcentennial, Quartoseptcentennial, Terquasquicentennial, Septeaquintaquinquecentennial (Yes, there really are that many variations possible for the 175th, I'm rooting for the Septaquintaquinquecentennial since it's taken me all year to learn to spell Sesquicentennial correctly!)

If you would like to share your photo from 50 years ago, feel free to go to Vinton Today's Facebook page and add it in the comments under this story!
