Area fire departments from Shellsburg, Urbana and Palo responded to a house fire in Shellsburg on Thursday afternoon. The house is located on the corner of Cottage and Canton, next to the Shellsburg Elementary School. Also responding to the fire were the Hiawatha ambulance and the Benton County Sheriff's department.

Witnesses say that the residents living in one side of the home which is a duplex had been served with an eviction notice. The cause of the fire is being investigated but it is thought that a generator was in use at the residence at the time of the fire.

In a news release from the Benton County Sheriff's office seen below, they are seeking assistance from the public with any information.
