Spring break or no spring break? How early should classes begin for Vinton-Shellsburg students? When should be the last day of school? What about "year-round" school -- a calendar year with the same number of school days but many breaks throughout the year and a much shorter summer vacation?
Iowa law allows school districts to make many of their own decisions regarding when the school year begins and ends. Vinton-Shellsburg leaders are asking for community input.
The district has issued the following invitation for district residents and parents to participate in an online survey:
Iowa school districts are bound by state and local provisions in setting a school calendar. A summary of these provisions and a set of answers to frequently asked questions are available on our website: www.vinton-shellsburg.k12.ia.us.
There is also a survey on the school web site. District leaders hope many area residents and parents will share their input through that survey.
The calendar committee is seeking your input in developing the school's calendar for the 2011-12 school year. Please take some time to provide your input. The calendar committee will review all survey results although the results will not be considered a "vote." The results will be one of the things the calendar committee reviews prior to developing a recommendation for the Board of Education's review.
