Last week June 7-13, 2020 was proclaimed National Garden week by National Garden Clubs, Inc. This is a special week in which garden clubs are in the spotlight with activities focusing on public attention of the role which garden club members play in all phases of gardening.
The Vinton Garden Club, one of the first charter members of the National Garden Clubs Inc. In a normal year, the garden club places designs or bouquets of flowers in banks, libraries, hospitals, and other businesses they choose during the week. The club continually maintain the perennial bed in the Tilford Elementary Outdoor Classroom working with the students, The Blue Star Marker, Scherbring flower garden as well as the fairground containers at the grandstands. It is very rewarding to see the beautiful color against the grandstand.
Members of the Vinton Garden Club include Edwon Yedlick, Lori Ferguson, Eileen Loan, Connie McClintock, and Fran Stueck. We lost a dedicated member Ted Stueck in February he kept an eye on our projects in Vinton.
The club would like to invite anyone interested in gardening to join the club.
The Vinton Garden Club would like to extend special recognition to the residents of Vinton and surrounding areas for beautifying their properties with landscaping and flowers.
The club encourages the planting of prairies with wildflowers. Plant host plants to attract birds, butterflies, bees and wildlife for pollination.
Any questions please contact Fran Stueck at 319-350-9238.
Members of the club were unable to meet with Vinton Mayor, Bud Maynard due to the pandemic for the annual reading of the Proclamation.
