"You need to write a big thumbs up article about the Vinton City power and roads crew. These guys were out within minutes after this storm passed through while it was still raining. Great Job!"Ok, I'll do that, I was thinking that I should anyway."Actually, all city services have been top-notch for the many years I have lived here since 2003. Also, the few minutes warning over the city PA system was much appreciated. An old friend of mine was on his roof and heeded the warning just in time to get down safely and take cover. In 2011 we got no warning what-so-ever."Alright, I'll do that. I'll tell everyone what an impressive job our guys are on the street departments, the ones that cleared a path for the electric crews to get through. I know they were working as soon as it happened, and they were still on the job past the end of their shift. Thank you also to all the men in town that grabbed their chainsaws and hopped in their pickups to start clearing debris. You guys are the best! (alright if there were women with chainsaws, I didn't see ya, but you could have been out there!) As I drove through town I smiled as I smelt the fresh cut wood and diesel. Two smells that for me remind me of my childhood. Cutting wood was a chore that I loved to do, because it meant time with dad, and as I saw all the wood stacked in back of pickups I remembered all the backaches I had from doing that, so I know it's no easy job. Once again, Vinton steps up. If we could get Mother nature to simply leave us alone, THAT would help! The power plant is running to provide power to Vinton, usually, it does not run except at peak power times, the middle of the winter when the demand is greater or during extreme heat again when the demand is great. At this time there are still many stops that crews are going to be making around town to fix powerlines. Vinton, once again, you are stepping up to help your neighbors, and you are what makes Vinton the best little town.
