Every time a disaster comes to Vinton, and it seems like it's too frequent, there is never a doubt in my mind that the people of Vinton will be there to help each other. From the first day that the storm hit until now, people have gotten out their chainsaws, and went to work.

The streets were lined with pickups and filled with debris from the storm. Street crews went to work clearing the streets as best as they could, and city crews started repairing electrical lines. It was never a question of IF we'd be back and running it was only a matter of how fast we'd get it done.

Most of the year, we don't notice our street crews and our electric workers. But in times of disaster, we note them.

Along with these people, there are the ones behind the scenes coordinating help for the rest of the county. It seemed like as soon as we were up and running a crew was in place collecting donations and seeking ways to help the rest of the county with their needs.

Vinton doesn't slow down when there's a need. There is something to be said for a community that takes care of their own AND their neighbor.

Thank you to all of you who have found a need and seek to meet it, you are the cream of the crop!

If you would like to make donations of clothing, you can drop it off at the Community Services building next to the Extension Office (old Three D Kitchen building), for other emergency donations, contact the Benton County Derecho Storm Resource Group who operates out of the old Clingman Pharmacy building.

Thanks again Vinton, you continue to amaze!
