Information released from Vinton-Shellsburg's Superintendent Kyle Koeppen notified the community of a fourth case of COVID. So far all cases contracted by students have not come from contact with other students at school but rather from outside the school setting.

The Superintendent released the following statement, "We had an individual from the middle school test positive for COVID over the weekend. Contact tracing occurred and close contacts were notified and are quarantined for precaution prior to the start of school Monday.

It is important to note that each of our confirmed positive cases this school year are contact traced to individuals outside of the school. We have not had any internal transfer at this point. This is due to our mitigation efforts of distancing and face coverings.

To help in these efforts of keeping students and staff safe, please exercise caution when knowing you have been around someone who is ill. If you have a family member who is ill and seeking a COVID test or awaiting results please exercise caution and stay home while results arrive. By rule this is not mandated, only for the individual being tested, but this practice could prevent a number of other students from having to quarantine. If we all do our part we can drastically reduce the spread of COVID in our community and reduce the number of people who must quarantine due to exposure.

I want to thank our school administration and staff who have been putting in extra effort and hours at random times to carry out these efforts. Together we are better!"
