Each year the Vinton Kiwanis Club sends a special request to the North Pole and requests Santa to make a visit to some of the children in Vinton-Shellsburg School District.
Usually, Santa treats the students with special needs and their parents to lunch and a Christmas party. Traditionally the children get to sit on Santa's lap and tell him their requests. This year, yes, you guessed it. COVID changed their traditional Christmas.
Santa was able to visit, complete with his special Santa facemask which Mrs. Claus created to look just like Santa's beard. Arriving with bells on, Santa was greeted with cheers from the children.
Each year the children receive a special gift from Santa which is always a hit with the attendees. This year the children received a cookie after all of the gifts had been opened at Tilford Elementary.
A special thanks to our area Kiwanis Club for the effort that goes into this annual event. Special thanks to Joe Wehage and "Mrs. Claus" for their efforts to bring Santa to visit the children and bring smiles to their faces.
