News : Dollars for Scholars success continues with basketball toss

Ball toss participants aim for a target during halftime to raise funds for Dollars for Scholars.

Throughout the year, the Vinton-Shellsburg Dollars For Scholars program raises fund through a variety of events. One of those events took place Tuesday during the Vikings home basketball game. During halftiime, a basketball toss took place. For $1 each, a fan could purchase a basketball and toss from the stands into a garbage can on the court. One of the basketballs that landed inside the can would be chosen; its owner would receive a portion of the proceeds of that event. Dozens of fans participated In the toss Tuesday night. Bob Fischer was one of the successful tossers; his basketball was chosen from those inside the garbage can. He donated his winnings back to Dollars for Scholars.
