We've had several cases of police seizing dogs for possible neglect (all parties are innocent until proved guilty) but in the meantime we have the responsibility of care, feeding, and vet care until it is determined what will happen and sometimes it takes several weeks plus, to sort it all out. We've had several of these cases (with multiple animals) in the last couple of years and have absorbed the cost in the majority of them but we can't keep doing it and we need help. One dog we have with us is on three different kinds of meds for skin conditions. We can use monetary donations to help with the vet bill and we have 4 dogs from the most recent seizure. In this seizure there are little breed dogs that require smaller sized dog food and all need good quality food for good digestion. If anyone would like to donate funds they can send to our P.O. Box 82 address (make the check out to FOTSI) all donations are tax deductible and if they would like to donate food they can leave it at the drop off place at the front door of the shelter. Please do not call the shelter, as you can imagine with a full house that we have little time to slow down as we are still trying to get all the others adopted or to rescues, etc. not to mention we clean, clean, and clean some more. If anyone has any questions they can email me at dfriendsoftheshelter@yahoo.com We want to thank the Vinton police and the Sheriff's Dept, and the animal control officer who assists them as they follow up on reported neglect or abuse of animals.
