It's a decades-old tradition that has been going on for so long that nobody can say for sure exactly when it began. But every year, the Kiwanis members serve pancakes during the first Saturday in March. And every year, Vinton area residents keep coming back.

The tradition continued this Saturday at the Vinton Skate Center, where 2011 Kiwanis members, assisted by local Cub Scouts, served pancakes and sausage.

Mike and Caroline Hibbs ran the ticket table. Mike said attendance was very good. He recalled breakfasts of decades past when auctions and other events were part of the day's activities.

DC March 7, 2011, 4:31 pm I heard about a couple of outlaws selling advance pancake tickets. One had a eye patch and a pistol and his sidekick was seen at a meeting waving around her 6 shooter and hollering--you\'d better buy you tickets from us, Pardner............
EH March 9, 2011, 3:13 pm Fellow Kiwanian Bob LaGrange told us that he believes the pancake breakfast tradition started in 1959. Whew, thats a long time!
