News : 31 apply for VSHS principal position; recommendation for hire expected next week

Vinton-Shellsburg Superintendent Mary Jo Hainstock said 31 people have applied for the job of VS High School principal.

After Friday's deadline, Hainstock will begin the selection process.

"That process includes the first screening done by Ryan Davis and me.," she said. We will meet to determine the top 8-10 candidates and share those files with the others on the administrative team."

Phone interviews with those will take place. Hainstock and Davis will then choose four finalists for in-person interviews.

"We plan to schedule interviews next Tuesday and Wednesday. The interview process will include interviews with community/parents, administrative team, staff, students and me as well as tours of the high school and community," said Hainstock.

Hainstock and Davis will meet with each group as they conclude their last interview. The administrative team will review the data collected from the groups and determine if they need to conduct a site visit or visits or if they are ready to make a recommendation to the board.

"I anticipate the board will have a special board meeting to approve the selection next week," said Hainstock

"There are approximately 15 people on the community/parent group, about 15 staff members and about 15 students who will be involved. We have six people on the administrative team so the entire process will include a large group of people," said the superintendent.
