News : Vinton Shellsburg FFA Competes at Sub-Districts

On Wednesday, February 23rd, the Vinton Shellsburg FFA chapter had 27 members compete at the Sub-District competition held in Cedar Falls, Iowa. These members competed in various activities and competitions and practiced many hours to be successful in these. Some members were able to watch and support fellow FFA members during competitions as well since they were set to perform at other levels. This was also a great way for members to meet people and gain more knowledge about FFA. Here are their results from the event: 

• Creed Speaking - Spencer Williams (Silver)

• Conduct of Meetings - Sam Lundvall, Tori Elwick, Jerry Lee, Izzie Birker, Matthew Bookmeier, Rayleigh Stander, Grayce McClintock (1st Gold - Advance to Districts)

• Parliamentary Procedure - Baylee Wheeler, Grace Schminke, Annabelle Newton, Christopher Fleming, Autumn McGowan, and Rachel Rollinger (1st Gold - Advance to Districts)

• Ag Broadcasting -Paul Herger (2nd Place - Advance to Districts)

• Job Interview - Anabelle Hernandez (Silver)

• Prepared Public Speaking - Josh Wiley (2nd Place - Advance to Districts)

• Ag Sales - Andrew Pingenot (1st Gold - Advance to Districts)

• Extemporaneous Speaking - Bailey Weeks (3rd Gold - Alternate to Districts) 

• Greenhand/Chapter Quiz - Ashlee Thomas (Silver), Charlee Johnson (Bronze), Kail Evans (Bronze), Isabel Mullinex (Silver), Clayton McKenna (9th Gold), Carlie Clark (Bronze), Brody Waters (Bronze), Austin Noe (Silver), Spencer Williams (Silver), Sam Lundvall (5th Gold), Tori Elwick (Silver), Jerry Lee (Silver), Izzie Birker (Silver), Matthew Bookmeier (Silver), Rayleigh Stander (Bronze), Grayce McClintock (5th Gold), Annabelle Newton (3rd Gold), Christopher Fleming (11th Gold), Autumn McGowan (Silver), Paul Herger (Silver), Rachel Rollinger (4th Gold)

The day ended with a trip to Raising Cane's for lunch. The FFA members returned back to school at the end of the school day, with full stomachs and happy spirits. Congratulations to all those who competed and to those who advanced to District-level competitions! The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter advanced 5 contests from Sub-District and 4 additional competitions will compete at Districts on March 12th.
