News : VSHS teams earn academic awards

During each activity season in Iowa, high school students are not only recognized for their accomplishments as performers or as athletes, but also recognized for their efforts in the classroom. The Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District is proud of the efforts our students put forth in the classroom. During the winter 2010-11 activity season, the following teams or groups have achieved state-wide academic recognition for their efforts. Team Coach Status Girls Basketball Deb Hanneman Distinguished Boys Basketball Joe Johnson Excellence Cheerleading Krystal Fitzpatrick Distinguished Achievement is based upon team GPA for 2010-11 2nd trimester. Standards for Academic Achievement Awards Boys – Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) ** Excellence: Varsity Team Average GPA of 3.00-3.24 ** ** Distinguished: Varsity Team Average GPA of 3.25-4.00 ** Girls – Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) ** Excellence: Varsity Team Average GPA of 3.20-3.60 ** ** Distinguished: Varsity Team Average GPA of 3.61-4.00 **
