News : Happel family first to finish 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 books and counting!

1,000 a number that pre-schoolers can't comprehend quite yet. But that is the number of books that this family has read in an attempt to read that many books before the first day of Kindergarten. The challenge was issued by the Vinton Public Library. The library provides a folder with pages that have stars that are crossed off as the family finished each book.

Cole, Dax, and Finn with the help of mom Stacy Happel began last January reading books. They read books at "nap time, bed time and any time that they had the urge to read a book," said mom.

Cole will be starting kindergarten at Tilford Elemetary with Mrs. Klein who will be his teacher. Right now Cole is enjoying the Laura Ingalls Wilder series. The family is reading "The Long Winter" and it is Cole's favorite book so far. The twins Dax and Finn who are a little bit younger, are really enjoying The Billy goats Gruff, Little Red Riding Hood and the Little Blue Truck books.
