The Benton County Fairgrounds was the site for the Benton County 3rd graders on Wednesday. Every year the Benton County Extension organizes the 3rd Grade Ag Day

Beginning at 9:00 a.m. the students began arriving. Students from Benton Community, Central Lutheran, Belle Plaine, Vinton-Shellsburg as well as the Homeschool Program participated. The event wraps up in the early afternoon around 2:00 p.m.

Several booths run by volunteers were available for the students to explore. The children were able to learn about pigs, horses, cows, chicken, rabbits, sheep and goats as well as corn, soybeans, farm equipment and farm safety.

At each of these events lunch is provided by commodities groups and included grilled hamburgers or pork burgers on a bun, chips, milk and ice cream.
