Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nicole Jacobs, 37, of Kanawha, Iowa, on May 10, 2011, following their investigation of a motor vehicle accident that occurred north of Keystone on October 8, 2010, that killed her six month old son (Lincoln Jacobs).

Nicole Jacobs was driving eastbound in the 1300 block of 68th street at approximately 2:30 p.m. on October 8, 2010, when she lost control of her 2001 Chrysler van. Nicole Jacobs; her 6-month-old son, Lincoln Jacobs; her 4-year-old daughter, Kailyn Jacobs; and 4-year-old family friend Mackenzie McWhorter were all ejected from the vehicle as the vehicle went into the ditch. The vehicle rolled over and landed on top of Lincoln Jacobs. The investigation revealed that Nicole Jacob’s blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit at the time of the accident and all occupants were unrestrained.

Jacobs is charged with:

  1. Homicide by vehicle, class B felony
  2. Child Endangerment causing death, class B felony
  3. Serious injury by vehicle, class D felony
  4. Child Endangerment causing bodily injury, class D felony
  5. Child Endangerment causing serious injury, class C felony
  6. Operating while intoxicated, 1st offense, serious misdemeanor

Nicole Jacobs was arrested in Kanawha by Benton County deputies and transported to the Benton County Jail where she is being held on a $25,000 cash only bond. The Iowa State Patrol assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

Trial has been set for September.

June 25, 2012, 11:54 pm Yes it is wrong, however you also don\'t know the individuals life circumstances that may have led up to the incident - she is not a criminal and has no prior record. She has obviously suffered the loss of her son, regrets the injury of mackenzie and does not want to be sent to prison---her daughter needs her!!!!!
