Several items on the Vinton City Council meeting agenda, including the proposed ordinance that would replace the authority of the Vinton Parks and Recreation Board to hire a director and other full-time staff by giving the board the job of recommending new hires to the city coordinator and city council, were tabled because of a lack of council members at the meeting.

     With only three council members -- Lisa Vermedahl, Ron Elwick and Bud Maynard -- present, and council member Dave Redlinger, recovering from medical treatment and participating via phone, Mayor John Watson chose to shorten the meeting and only address the issues with a pressing deadline. 

    Watson said there needed to be a "bigger consensus" to properly deal with those issues. 

    The remaining issues will appear during a rescheduled meeting next Thursday, May 19.
