On Saturday, Francis Potter, 84 of Luzerne was driving a 2012 Ford Focus and towing a 1997 Home motorcycle ridden by Lorin Potter, 81. The motorcycle was being pulled by a rope. The two vehicles were traveling at a very slow speed traveling west on 77th Street at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
Near the 18th Ave. intersection, a third vehicle, a 2015 Volkswagen Passat, driven by Stacia Mewes, 45 of Blairstown, was also traveling west on 77th St. Unable to stop before crashing into the motorcycle the vehicle pushed the motorcycle into the back of the Ford Focus near the 18th Ave. intersection.
The Focus rotated 180 degrees and came to rest facing east on the north shoulder of the road. The motorcycle landed in the north ditch and the Passat came to a stop on the north shoulder of the roadway.
The Iowa State Patrol was dispatched to the scene.
The motorcycle rider, Lorin Potter was a current councilman in Luzerne. We are sad to report that after being transported by the Blairstown Ambulance to St.Luke's Hospital, he did not survive the crash.
