It has been another productive summer and fall around Vinton!

On the west end of town, we've watched a couple of developments happening. The largest and one that impacts a lot of people every day is the paving of West 1st Street. It looks like it's been moving quickly, for the most part, but then I don't live on that street. I'm sure residents in that area might disagree with my assessment!

We also added an Auto Zone on that end of town as well this summer.

A new store is also taking shape across from Dollar Fresh. It appears that we are getting a Family Dollar/Dollar Tree combination store. (At least from the red and green trim on top...unless the company really gets into Christmas colors!)

On the east end of town...the bridge repairs were completed in record time and it seems to have moved along smoothly.

The east water tower work has been completed. The tower was due for a cleaning inside and a new coat of paint outside. Residents have been hearing the tower being stripped down for weeks, and watched the progress of painting it. It now bears the newer logo rather than simply saying, "Vinton," it now matches the tower in Kiwanis Park. It was quite fascinating to watch it go from nothing to the beautiful Vinton logo.

The latest thing to watch was the slide at the pool being taken down, one section at a time. It requires a crane, a chainsaw, a cutting torch and some pretty agile guys to bring the monster down.

Wow! Did I get everything? Now we'll be hunkering down for the winter, brrr....I don't even want to think about that!

So here's to the city for all of the hard work in all of these areas, lining up road construction, funding and all that goes into that for a new section of road and the bridge repairs, the Water Department for getting the water tower looking all spiffy, Vinton Parks and Recreation for whatever they have up their sleeve for the pool next.

Shew, it's been a busy few months! I've loaded nearly 2 gigabytes of photos off of my phone to this Facebook link, so enjoy or ignore, readers choice! Click HERE!

SH(M October 20, 2023, 2:02 pm One street down, a BUNCH of streets to go here in town. On a side note, I hear that the town auto-shops are selling a lot of shocks and suspension work.
