It was an invitation to join friends at the Quad Cities Bix 7 in 2012 that marked the first steps for Regina Malaska in her journey of race events. Since then, she has continued to train, learn, adapt and enjoy various events from 5k's up to her 50 mile run in 2022.
There were of course unexpected obstacles, rewarding milestones, meaningful interactions and beautiful scenery. Having logged in various shorter races, such as the Bix 7 and smaller local runs among the 13 half marathons, 8 full marathons, 3 50k's and last year's 50 miler, you could confidently say she runs with joy, determination and gratitude.
Through them all, despite the challenges, the unknowns and even a few mistakes, Regina finishes these races smiling big. Often with a fist pump in the air.
What goals does she have on the horizon to meet? She desires to run a 100k as well as join as support staff for a 100 mile race! These amazing crews have so much to share and teach, as well as help others complete their milestones. It cannot be expressed enough, the importance of having others there to support and cheer a runner on, and she desires to join in this aspect of the running community.
Regina is also involved in the Gifts of Hope breast cancer awareness run/walk challenge for the month of October. Early Detection Saves Lives! The Gifts of Hope Walk/Run Challenge is a free event for participants. Donations are being accepted on the website; hats crocheted by Regina are given to those who donate $15 or more. A mammogram screening event is being held this Thursday evening form 5-7:30PM. Please see link below for more information.

When trying to sum up her entire running experience thus far, she expressed it as simply: 'Gratitude'. Immeasurable gratitude for those who guide her on this path, those who have supported her through all the events and encourage her as well as others to achieve their running goals.
