It all started last year after seeing a post by Wesley United Methodist on Facebook. The church was in need of certain items for the food bank. Waylon Struve a 5 year old, well, he's almost 6 he would say, decided that he wanted to use his birthday money to buy food to donate to the food bank.

Waylon asked his family to bring canned goods to his party and he also used any birthday money he received to go shopping for groceries.

"He had a lot of family and friends donate to this cause last year. Fast forward to this year. We decided to do it again. This year we put it out on Facebook asking any family or friends to celebrate Waylon's birthday month by donating food or money to send him shopping for food for Wesley's food bank," said his mom Valerie Struve.

She said that he is now proficient at self-checkout after all the shopping this year. Waylon's birthday isn't for another couple of weeks....so if you feel so inclined to donate on behalf of Waylon's idea, feel free to do so.

This last year the family has "helped out monthly at the food bank and have truly enjoyed it," mom said.

On Monday, Waylon had collected 309 items, but the final number grew to 322 by Tuesday. The family wished to say, a "Big thanks to all those friends & family!"

Thanks also to Waylon for your giving heart...and happy almost birthday!
