By: Co-Reporter, Izzie Birker
On April 29th, four Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members went to the Iowa Youth Institute Conference in Ames, Iowa at Iowa State University. The members went to this conference to discuss papers they wrote to solve hunger in another country with hundreds of other FFA members who also turned in a paper about the struggles and hardships that are going on in the world.
The papers all had to talk about an agricultural issue in the current world. These four members got to take the time with people all over Iowa and share what they had found reaching these foreign countries in a round table decisions group. From entering one of these papers the members will each receive a $1,000 scholarship from Iowa State University for their participation and from wanting to be the change in the world.
After these papers are read through and voted on, the event coordinators will determine who gets to move on to the larger round table to defend their papers against others. These members would get a chance to win an additional $2,000 scholarship if they advance, we will be finding those results on who gets to move on here in the next coming months.
We are so proud of all of these participants for wanting to try and make a difference in the changing world!
