Last week a jury was seated in the Samantha Bevans First Degree Murder trial for the murder of her stepmother, Jodie Bevans.
Following a week of testimony from family members all speaking to the kindness of Jodie in extending a second chance opportunity to Samantha, moving her back home in hopes of changing her life and making it better, the family also had to testify to the terrible mistake that was. Just a glimpse into the kindness that Jodie had extended to Samantha, in some of Samantha's own words made it abundantly clear to the jury that Jodie went above and beyond to help her stepdaughter. In her stepdaughter's own words, she was kind and nurturing. She was also the victim of a sinister plot by the same stepdaughter.
The court also heard testimony of the events that led up to the murder of Jodie. They heard testimony of what happened on Jodie's last day. The jury saw photos of the scene and detailed explanations of what was done to Jodie in her last minutes.
It took the jury just a little under an hour and a half to come to the conclusion that the verdict to Samantha Bevans, 38, was guilty. Guilty of murder in the first-degree.. Sentencing will be on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 1:30 p.m.
Her boyfriend Tacoa Talley was also convicted in the plot of first-degree murder a little over a year ago. He was sentenced to life in prison and is serving his sentence in the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, Iowa.
