Leadership. Integrity. Trust.

Four years ago, I was asked by many people if I would consider running for Benton County Supervisor. My answer was. "No." I had committed my time to the Iowa Corn Growers Association and I wanted to finish my term by giving my full attention to the organization. My term ends in a few short months.

I have been asked again if I would please consider this cycle for supervisor. It is humbling to receive such support and know that others see a skill set that would benefit the county if elected.

My work ethic began back to high school. Following graduation, I worked for Proctor And Gamble for nearly five years before returning to work on the farm. Then I entered the trucking industry. With encouragement from close friends, and my wife Heidi, I started my own company. The company grew and we started a 3rd party logistics company to compliment the asset side of the business.

I didn't have enough to do so I purchased 80 acres and started to build homes on what is known as North Field Ranch at the same time we started our farming operation. After serious consideration and a great offer we sold the development.

A few years later we had the opportunity to sell the transportation business and focus on just our family and our farm. The timing was perfect! Our kids experienced farm life and learned a work ethic by raising livestock and showing livestock all over the Midwest.

I was then elected to the Iowa Corn Growers Association as director for District 6 and after serving only three years I was then elected to the executive rotation. My executive duties included Vice President, President, and Chairman. I have fulfilled my duties and currently am a director at large. My term ends in August.

I have a background of working with people from all over the world. As part of my work, approximately 18 different countries have been represented right here in Benton County on our farm.

I have had the opportunity to develope relationships with State and Federal leaders along with Presidential candidates and their staff. I am also currently working on a project with NASA. This maybe the most exciting thing I have done in my agriculture career. In July last year, 15 individuals from NASA visited Benton County for two days. The visitors included the Director of NASA Earth Sciences/ Observation.

There are many issues now and there will be more to come in government. Right now, leadership is the biggest issue for the county. Without leadership morale becomes low and creates a negative culture.

We need positive leadership!

Leadership is also listening; a good leader has to listen to the people! It is the people's county. I think there is a huge misconception that the position of supervisor is a singular position. We know it's not so. One person is unable to initiate any fixes alone. There needs to be leadership in all three supervisor positions. When all three positions agree nearly 100 percent of the time, that is troubling.

If I am elected, the county will get a proven leader with an extremely diverse background. I can bring ideas forward and questions that might shake things up a little, but I will always put others before myself.

It is the people's county!

I believe I have what it takes to continue to make Benton County proud. I will work hard so that dollars are not spent frivolously. I will also strive to restore morale within county government. I will bring positive results and fiscal responsibility to the county.

With your vote, I will work hard to bring only good things to the county.
