The action is at Riverside Park this Friday night as the 20th Annual Party in the Park celebration continues. Enjoy the food booths, family fun games and activities, and rides. The barrel train will be in full motion on Friday night for the little kids. And for those of us too big to fit in the barrel, there will be some horse drawn wagon rides by Kenny Henkel and Nancy Baldwin will be around for her horse and carriage rides. There will also be some fun games for the whole family such as Hoola Hoop & Bubble Gum Blowing Contest and more. Rides and activities will run from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
The fun starts at 6 p.m. as the Vinton Community Band takes over the band shell. The Community Band plays the best of the big band sounds with the flare of the local musicians you know and love.
At 6:45, we will be hosting the annual Pizza Hut Pizza Eating contest. If you’re up to the challenge, come up and show off your best pizza eating technique. Whoever eats their pizza the fastest wins a valuable prize from our local Pizza Hut. It’s always fun to watch the contestants as they stuff their faces with pizza. We’ve got some fierce competitors in this town!
At 7 o’clock, the regional favorite Dogs On Skis will rock Riverside Park with your favorite tunes ranging from the classics to Top 40 hits. If you’ve never heard this band before, you’re in for a real treat. Dogs On Skis have been entertaining Iowans and fans in surrounding states since 1986. After Dogs On Skis performs, stick around for a fantastic fireworks display courtesy of Bar Y Pyros. Friday’s fireworks were donated entirely by local farmer and chief pyro Chuck Yedlik. Vinton owes Chuck a huge “Thank You” for lighting up this year’s Party In The Park celebration.
Party In The Park is annual event for the whole family. There is no cost for most of the activities due to the generosity of local businesses and private donors. For more information or to volunteer, check out www.vprdzone.com or call the VPRD at 319-472-4164.
