Taryn Martin, a Vinton-Shellsburg sophomore, was selected to attend the 2024 Iowa Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Every year, one sophomore student in every Iowa public and private high school is chosen to attend.

The Iowa HOBY annual leadership seminar is designed to prepare high school sophomores to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. HOBY's vision is "To motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within our global society through understanding and action based on effective and compassionate leadership."

With a network of more than 4,000 volunteers nationwide, HOBY provides lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential.

Iowa HOBY is celebrating more than 30 years of leadership seminars across the state and the accomplishments of more than 5,000 Iowa high school sophomores who have participated in the program.

Martin was nominated by Jeff Mangold and sponsored by Aaron Colyer to attend the event.

During the closing ceremony, Drake University offered a Presidential Scholarship to the students if they should choose to attend Drake as their destination following graduation.

Congratulations Taryn!
