The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members have spent weeks preparing for various state and district contests. The competitions were held at the Kirkwood and Iowa State University campuses. On Thursday, June 6th the Ag Mechanics and Food Science teams competed at Iowa State in their statewide contest. The Vinton-Shellsburg State Ag Mechanics team included Andrew Allsup, Cooper McClintock, and Wesley McKenna. The State Ag Mechanics team earned a silver rating. The Food Science team received 7th overall and the team consisted of Juliana Luis, Izzie Birker, and Megan Schlitter.
State Horse Judging, State Floriculture, and Northeast District Livestock Judging all took place at Kirkwood Community College on Tuesday, June 11th. The Vinton-Shellsburg Chapter had two teams competing in the State Horse Judging competition. The middle school team included Abby McKenna, Katelyn Fleming and Jameson Demuth. The middle school Horse Judging Team earned a gold rating. The high school members earned a silver rating with the team consisting of Megan Schlitter, Will McKenna, and Izzie Birker.
District Livestock Judging had two teams competing with the team of Raine Wheeler, Sophia Newton, Bri Dulin, and Kirsten Pettit getting 6th place. The second team placed 10th; this team included Wyatt Shaver, Will Kreutner, Cooper Mcclintock and Andrew Pingenot. Individually Andrew Pingenot placed 4th overall for District Livestock Judging. State Floriculture earned an overall silver rating, the team consisted of Ciara Dods, Kassidi Brunssen, Ali Lutz and Jazmyn Dods. Congratulations to all of the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members for all of their achievements and efforts!
