The Benton County Treasurer's Office is hiring a Motor Vehicles Clerk. This position is responsible for assisting the public by accurately processing motor vehicle transactions as directed by the State of Iowa.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent service to the public in a timely manner by assisting customers at the counter and answering telephones
  • Assist motor vehicle owners and dealers in processing vehicle registrations, transferring titles, issuing license plates, computing and collecting appropriate fees
  • Issue salvage titles, junk certificates, duplicate titles, file refund claims, and perform all other record keeping consistent with State of Iowa procedures
  • Locate and record lien information to assist law enforcement officials, insurance companies and the Internal Revenue Service by searching records
  • Collect property tax payments
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid drivers license

  • Ability to adapt to a fast paced, changing work environment and respond well under pressure to ensure all deadlines are met
  • Ability to work independently
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong computer skills

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of MS office applications
  • Experience working in an office environment

This position will require flexibility to work additional hours beyond the typical work day when needed. Occasional travel may be required as well to attend trainings or conferences.
