On Thursday, September 26, students from Union Community School District got a hands-on lesson in farm safety during the third annual Ag Safety Day, hosted at the Youngblut Ag Shop in partnership with the Tama County ISU Extension Office. The event will ran from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM and aimed to teach children crucial farm safety skills through interactive, engaging activities.

With farming being a central part of life in rural Iowa, the event is designed to give kids practical knowledge on how to stay safe around farm equipment and hazards. Students rotated through three safety stations, each addressing a different aspect of farm safety:

  • Grain Bin/Trailer Safety: Demonstrated the dangers of grain entrapment and how to avoid accidents.
  • Farm Equipment Blind Spot Safety: Taugh students about the risks of blind spots when working near large machinery.
  • First Aid & Emergency Safety: Provided basic first aid tips and teaching students what to do in case of an emergency on the farm.

Students from kindergarten through fifth grade were given the opportunity to learn about the importance of farm safety. Cassidy Youngblut said about the event, "We LOVE doing this for the kids and seeing those ah-ha moments!  We get to hear from their parents about how much their kids learned and it just melts my heart that we get to do a small piece to help avoid any accidents that could ultimately change the lives of those in our community forever."

Youngblut Ag is located at 75 Iowa Highway 21 in Dysart, IA. You can see several photos and video clips of the day on their Facebook page located HERE or check out their website HERE.
