Tree Debris: If you are able, please take all tree debris to the dump areas north of town. Small braches can go to the brush dump. Larger pieces that can be reused in stoves and fireplaces should be taken to the old dump site, which is the first right turn north of the bridge. If you are unable to remove the debris yourself, place the debris on the curbside and it will be picked up by city or state crews. However, it may be weeks before the debris is cleared.

Construction Debris: At present, property owners need to take care of your own construction debris. This may involve contracting to have the debris removed or transporting to the landfill in Blairstown. Check with your insurance agent about coverage for storm contruction debris removal coverage.

Electricity: The electric utility is working hard to restore electricity to all of Vinton. We have several other municipal electric utility companies here to help. However, it may be several days before you have electricity. In the meantime, treat any down power line as “live..” Do not touch any power line or anything touching a down power line.

Water/Sewer: There are no current problems with water and sewer.

Residential Garbage Pickup: This will be delayed one day this week.

Repairs to Property: Be advised that all structural repairs must have a building permit. This includes structural repairs to roofs. Replacement of siding or shingles does not require a permit. Any damage to electric service masts must be inspected prior to electrical hookup to the utility service. Please contact city hall (472-4707) with any questions.

Contractors Need to be Licensed: If you are approached by or are deciding to have a contractor work on your property, make sure they are licensed with the city of Vinton. Electrical contractors need to license with the state. This is for your protection! It ensures that they have the qualifications to do the work and insurance to cover their work and their employees. Need Assistance? Call 211 from any landline or 1-866-469-2211 from a cellphone if you need assistance. The service is working to put together a list of volunteers that can help you. They will be able to match you up with the help that is available. Volunteers We appreciate any and all assistance. Call 211 from any landline or 1-866-469-2211 from a cellphone if you need assistance. The service is working to put together a list of volunteers. They will take that list and match up volunteers with those who need assistance. Emergency Shelters and Cooling Places: The Red Cross Emergency shelter is at the new high school on 21st Street. If you need assistance please go there. They are providing meals not only for people who are staying at the shelter, but also for families without electricity and would like meals for lunch (noon) and supper (5:30-6:00 PM). Please be careful travelling around on the streets. There are many city and state vehicles helping to remove debris and reconnecting the electricity. If you do not have to be on the streets, please do not go out. The less cars on the road, the less congestion there will be.
