I love history and especially Vinton history. One of Vinton Today's readers a former resident of Vinton who loves to dig into the history of this little town as well.

Upon seeing the news about the fire this weekend, he sent this little tidbit in about the history of the building that caught on fire. Here's what he said:

Some history about the Vinton Motel house that burned down.

Albert Bascom (Vern's dad) bought the farm that sat in that location, around 1950. He rented out the farmhouse to Elmo Baxter (teacher) for a while and it later became the Vinton Steak House.

There was a corn crib on the farm, so Albert and Vern cleaned it out and converted it into a house/office for the motel they built, between the office and the Steak House. That "corn crib" is what burned this week.

Thanks Tom!
