Construction will begin within days on the new Benton County Law Enforcement Center.

Within days, the elevated site that was once the home of the Benton County Law Enforcement Center will become the construction site for the new center.

The Benton County Supervisors signed the contract with Kleiman, Inc. of Cedar Rapids during their meeting Tuesday morning, April 20.

Architect Todd McNall of Design Dynamics told the supervisors that Kleiman has indicated a desire to begin immediately.

"They will want to bring in their construction trailers soon," he said.

The contract includes the building of the jail, administrative space for the Sheriff's Office and the Emergency Management Operations Center. Total cost: $6,212,934.

May 1, 2011 is the completion date, McNall told the county leaders.
