Vinton Night took place on Saturday, July 9, at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Several Vinton youth helped with opening exercises, and Vinton Parks and Recreation Department intern Kellie Brodigan threw out one of the first pitches. Kelly is the granddaughter of Gretta Geiken, who last year threw out the first pitch during Vinton Night, as part of her 80th birthday celebration.
Several Vinton kids and a few moms helped carry out the large flag during the playing of the National Anthem. Other kids were chosen for the Dream Team, which took the field with Kernels players. Still others were part of the High Five, which exchanged the same with players as they ran toward their positions.
Vinton shared the spotlight with both the city of Independence and Harry Potter; there was a Harry Potter movie character costume contest that evening.
