Thursday, March 27th was the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapters annual Volunteer Auction. 35 high school FFA members and 2 advisors signed up to be auctioned off by Sam Finnegan to volunteers within the community.
At the Volunteer Auction, FFA members volunteer 8 hours of community service to do various tasks like concession, garden work, working livestock, chores, fence building, as well as working at food stands at local county fairs and other events. Junior Andrew Allsup said, "This is definitely one of our most fun and creative fundraisers that we do in our chapter. I had a lot of fun this year because I was able to be the caller for the auctioneer."
This was a great fundraiser for the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter where a grand total of $15,510 was raised to help pay for State and National Convention expenses. This year, the student coordinators explored a new opportunity to auction off a handful of small baked goods provided by Teresa Merchant, Sharon Schminke, and Karen Enos.
Many local businesses sent representatives to support the chapter too. This event brings community members together and brings light to agricultural experiences and the service that members provide within the community.
