More than 50 years after opening Farmers Sales and Service, Dell Hanson sold virtually everything in the building on Saturday.
"I don't intend to hold everything back," Hanson said before the auction, as many people began browsing the antique tractors, tractor parts, heavy equipment and even the homemade projects that Hanson invented and built himself.
On Monday, as they have for years, Hanson's friends gathered at the business for morning conversation and coffee. But soon the FEMA buyout will become finalized and Hanson and his friends will have to look for a new meeting place. Hanson said they held a "graduation" on Friday, commemorating their time together in a semi-formal way.,
Hanson had once served as a county supervisor and state representative; one of his former campaign signs was repainted to announce the auction.
