Surrounded by the displays of history in one of Vinton's most historical locations, the teachers of today and tomorrow gathered at the Ray House to be welcomed by the Vinton Women's Club and many local citizens.
For years, the Club has been welcoming new and returning teachers with its reception at the Ray House, where Garden Club and Historical Society members work year-round to keep the house looking great. Despite the loss of two large trees in the storm of July 11, the yard of the home is full of flowers in bloom. While observing the variety and beauty, Kathy Van Steenhuyse said she had been concerned about how well the flowers would do without the shade the trees provided.
Inside, the Club members welcomed teachers and administrators along with local residents. The husbands of the club members took their usual position on the porch, welcoming those who entered the building.
