The Vinton City Council, as required by law, voted to update its city precinct map during its council meeting last night. Only a tiny number of residents, however will notice the change.
After every 10 year census, city and county governments are required, as are state legislatures, to update their precinct maps so that each voting area has an equal population. The new map approved by the council has only two small changes. The area that goes from 2nd to 7th avenue, and from 8th to 9th Street will change from Precinct 2 to 3. And the area from 6th Avenue to 11th avenue between East 5th and 6th Street changes from Precinct 4 to Precinct 1.
The next step is for the city to submit this map to the Iowa Secretary of State's Office for approval.
