A wide range of community-focused projects will soon or have come to life thanks to the latest round of H.O.T. (Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax) Grant awards. These grants are designed to promote tourism, improve quality of life, and support local organizations in delivering meaningful experiences for residents and visitors.
This year’s recipients represent a diverse mix of initiatives that celebrate community pride, recreation, and history. The American Legion George G Luckey Post 57 will receive funding for cemetery flag placements and a Flag Day celebration honoring patriotism and service. Benton County Conservation has been awarded support for its “Sensory Play for All” project, creating inclusive outdoor experiences. Benton County Extension & 4-H will bring creativity to life with a “Color the Fair” mural, while the Benton County Historical Society will offer both Revolutionary War programming and the immersive “After Hours: The Haunt Experience.”
Additional grant recipients include Izaak Walton Red Cedar Chapter for its Annual Easter Egg Hunt and the Vinton Country Club for facility enhancements and expanded marketing efforts. The Vinton Parks and Recreation Department will improve the local Skate Center, enhancing recreational opportunities for all ages.
Vinton Unlimited will lead several initiatives, including the launch of the Eastern Iowa BBQ Trail, installation of a “Welcome to Vinton” billboard, upgrades to the downtown outdoor music system, and expanded outreach through Our Iowa Magazine advertisements. Finally, the Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation will host the Benton County Health & Wellness Fair, promoting community health and well-being.
These projects reflect the energy and vision of the purpose of the HOT Grant. By investing in these efforts, our community is strengthened, supports local tourism, and creates opportunities for residents and visitors to connect and engage.
